Browns Retreat are luxury self-catering suites situated in the heart of Folkestone. Tastefully decorated offering a superb relaxing stay.
Once inside The Retreats you will see that they are finished to the highest standard and all are unique in their finish and layout, to ensure a comfortable relaxing stay.Situated in the port town situated in the English Channel in Kent, is Folkestone. Until 19th Century Folkestone had a small fishing community with a sea front that battled the storms, in 1807 an act of parliament was passed to build a pier and harbour and in 1809 Thomas Telford built a pier and harbour.
- The old High Street is stone’s throw away; the cobbled streets lead to the harbour area of Folkestone. The Old High Street has many independent, shops, bars and restaurants to choose from
- The Harbour and Harbour arm offering spectacular views across the channel, a large variety of cafes, and eateries, independent shops, and live entertainment programme.
- Less than a ten minutes’ walk from Browns Retreat is the award-winning Sunny Sands Beach.
- The lower leas Coastal Path can be taken on foot or by bike, past Sandgate, Hythe, Dymchurch, which ends at Dungeness.
- 30 minutes by car is the historic City of Canterbury, the new shopping centre and old cobbled streets is home to many bars, restaurants, and cafes, as well as the beautiful Cathedral and the Marlow theatre.
- 20 minutes by car and you will find the port of Dover, if you’re planning a day trip to France, and the amazing White Cliffs of Dover and the Castle which is worth a visit.
OUR PROMISE
BROWNS RETREAT
Newly released for summer 2023 our suites have taken careful planning and attention to detail to provide our customers with the best possible stay. Some of the suites have copper free standing role top baths, others have an outside secluded garden space with hot tub. They are all unique in their design and appearance. The building has undergone extensive refurbishment. All with double glazing and central heating.
We are situated through a secure entrance leading to a courtyard off the main street of the town centre, just stone’s throw away from all the shops and restaurant Folkestone has to offer. The old high street is a few metres away which leads down to the sea front and harbour arm.
There is a theatre on the Leas just a ten-minute walk away offering a variety of shows and entertainment it is definitely worth looking at ‘what’s on’ while you stay.
There is 24 hour phone number so if you have any concerns or need anything during your stay you can contact someone who will gladly help.
ROMANTIC GET AWAY
Time is so precious and we know that when you do have time together you want to make the most of it, we can arrange for a bottle of your favourite bubbly or wine to be left in your suite along with flower petals as a romantic gesture on your arrival. Please email us directly and we will do our best to put the extra touches into making your stay as romantic as possible.
FAMILY TIME
Getting away with the family is special and we cater for children too, some of our suites are fitted with sofa beds and additional bedding can be placed in your suite so you are all accommodated. The family suites are slightly larger and offer you all a comfortable stay, please note the adult bedroom area is separate to the lounge and kitchen area where the sofa bed is placed.
COSY WINTER BREAK
What better way to spend your holiday in the tucked away Browns Retreat, in a central position all the suites are fully central heated and offer you a thermostat to control your suite to how you like it. Comfortably furnished to the highest standard an autumn break is made perfect at Browns Retreat.
SUMMER FUN
Folkestone is packed full of things to do on a summers day and we have breath taking views across the channel to France in the distance, on a clear day you can see France. With the Leas and coastal paths on the doorstep you can follow the coastal footpath either by foot or bike to the next town of Sandgate and then Hythe. The beautiful coastline offers a relaxing vibe and both Sandgate and Hythe have many independent shops and restaurants to suit everyone – you will be spoilt for choice.
Moving slightly outside of Folkestone we have great links to the neighbouring towns and cities offering great days out and sightseeing experiences.
No request is too big or small for our team. If it matters to you, it matters to us. Let us make your escape perfect.
Inside the suites.
All of our suites have their own entrance hall way area, and are fitted with private bathrooms, with sink, toilet and large shower cubicle with a powerful thermostatic shower. All towels are included for your stay. (for inside the suites only and can not be used for swimming) toiletries also included so you can travel light. The newly fitted kitchens, all unique in their design and colour are fully equipped and come with an electric hob, and oven so if you wish to cook a meal or rustle up breakfast you can do this conveniently, in your own private suite. All the kitchens are kitted out with everything you need to feel like you are at home – from home. The bedroom areas are all unique in their placing and all offer al king-size bed, ensuring you a comfortable night sleep. We have made sure all the beds have award winning Emma mattresses so make your sleep as comfortable as we can. All bedding is cotton, with fully breathable cotton duvets to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer. We have medium and firmer support pillows so you can rest easy. All bedrooms/bed areas have a full HD flat screen tv. Included in your suite is a sitting are sitting areas, some with sofas, chairs and or armchairs so you can relax and unwind when you’re not out exploring the area, a second flat screen TV is in the living area, so you can catch up on your favourite series. There is also a dining area complete with table and chairs. All our suites are unique in their lay out and no two suites are the same.
However, we can guarantee you will be blissfully relaxed and feel at home during your stay.
Staying away for business
We understand how important it is to have everything you need whilst working away from home and we have created the suites to suit working professionals too. With fast broad band and comfortable surroundings. The suites are all central heated and you can control your own temperature within the suites to suit your needs. Just a few metres away from all the cafes and resturants so if you wanted to dine out or eat in you have both options available.
The suites are bright and airy and are serviced every day. We do ask if you can use your towels again to cut back on waste and the environment then that is great, if you would like fresh towels please leave them inside the shower and we will renew them for you. Please leave your housekeeping sign on your door if you wish your room to be serviced during your stay, housekeeping is between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

France distant landscape 24 miles away which can be seen from Folkestone sea front. Gateway to the continent.

Fresh fish from Sunny Sands beach on the Stade Harbour and Rock Salt restaurant, am award winning fish restaurant with breath taking views.

If you are moving and inbetween properties Browns Retreat are an ideal stop gap and we offer longer lets, please email us regarding stays longer than 14 nights and we will give you a best quote for the days and nights you require.
The suites are all unique and individual and offer sympathetic colour schemes and tones to make your stay a relaxing home from home. All of our suites are fully equipped with bedding and towels – no need to worry about anything – you can travel light.
When you step inside your apartment you will have your own private bathroom with large shower, your bedroom area offering award winning EMMA matreeses to make your stay as comfortable as can be! We have carefully selected 100% Egyptian cotton bedding and a choice of pillows, and a flat screen tv on the wall. Your lounge area offers a sofa area with an additional smart TV where you can sign into Netflix to watch any of your favourite box sets. (additional fees apply or you can log in with your own) comfortable seating and dinning and a fully equipped kitchen. If you want to cook meals or just have a coffee the ooption is yours.
All suites come with tea and coffee facilitates, your own heating control system and full high speed broad band.

When you enter the courtyard off the high street you have your own private entrance straight to your suites.
Upon leaving your suite you are on the one of the main streets of the town, here you will find all the restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars as well as shops, hairdressers and local land marks. If you come to Folkestone by train you can move about using taxis buses and on foot as the town centre leads straight to the old high street, which then links you up to the Harbour arm and sea front. You can choose from an abundance of lovely restaurants including vegan, Indian, Italian, Asian, Thai there are so many to choose from. There are also several supermarkets too, if you would prefer to cook then you can choose from Lidls, Sainsburys, Tescos and Asda.
Whilst staying with us you can hire a car, and take a trip to France or if you bring your own car there is parking just a few minutes away which can be paid for using Ringo.

Parking and Checking in
The town centre in which where the property is situated has restricted parking and all cars must be moved from the front of the property by 10am and you can park after 6pm, however at the end of the road a few minutes walk from Browns Retreat are several car parks offering 24 hour parking. All of which can be paid for using the app or calling the phone number. Daily charges as of April 2022 are from £ TBC

All bed linen and towels are included in the stay.
Full laundry and ironing service available upon request, please email for a price list.
Check in – from 3pm details of check in will be emailed to you the day before your stay.
Special Request
To make your stay as special as possible we have contacted local business and offer a range of food and drink which can be delivered to your suite on arrival
If you are looking to have a Bloc box we have a local company who offers cheese and meat platters which we can arrange to be in your suite when you arrive, we would need to know your requirements as we need to pre – book and they are all subject to avalaibilty but they are a great welcome treat while you relax at Browns Retreat you can tuck into cheese and biscuits and fresh meat, olives etc. please email directly if you would like a Bloc box delivered, or any other food or drink. we have a shopping list which you can complete and email to us and we can arrange for this to be in your suite on arrival. No need to worry about shopping when you arrive.
We also highly recommend a local company who deliver after noon tea, if you would like to have afternoon tea on arrival or the following day we can arrange for this to come straight to your suite so that you don’t have to worry.
